Free security daily activity report (DAR) template
A printable daily activity report for security officers, with every section clients and auditors expect. Print it, or save it as a PDF.
What should a security daily activity report include?
A security daily activity report (DAR) should include the site and post, the officer's name and licence number, shift start and end times, a time-stamped log of activities and patrols, any incidents with their report numbers, visitors and deliveries, equipment and keys handed over, notes for the next shift, and the officer's and supervisor's signatures.
Section by section
Shift details
Site, post, date, start and end time, and the officer's name and licence number, so the record is tied to a person and a place.
Time-stamped activity log
Every patrol, check and event with the time it happened, written as it happens rather than at the end of the shift.
Patrols and checkpoints
Which rounds were completed and when, and any that were missed and why.
Incidents
A short note and the incident report number for anything that needed a full report.
Visitors, deliveries and contractors
Who came on site, when, and who authorised them.
Handover
Keys, equipment and open issues passed to the next officer, with both signatures.

Writing reports clients and courts trust
- Write entries as they happen, with the time; a DAR written from memory at the end of the night is easy to challenge.
- Stick to facts you saw or heard. Write "door found unlocked at 02:14", not "someone left the door open".
- Use the 24-hour clock and the same date format on every report.
- Never leave a time gap without an entry; "02:00–03:00 static post, no activity" is still a record.
- Reference the incident report number instead of retelling the incident in the DAR.
Skip the paper: reports that write themselves
In ForceVera, officers report from their phone with photos, clock-ins and patrol scans are recorded automatically, and each client gets a daily report in your branding. See incident & daily reports in ForceVera.
Questions, answered
What is a DAR in security?
A DAR, or daily activity report, is the security officer's record of a shift: when they were on duty, what they did, patrols completed, incidents, visitors and handover notes. Security companies send DARs to clients as proof of service.
Who reads a daily activity report?
Supervisors and managers review DARs, clients read them as evidence that the service was delivered, and they can be used in insurance claims, audits and legal cases.
How often should a DAR be completed?
One DAR is completed per officer per shift, with entries added throughout the shift.
Can daily activity reports be done on a phone?
Yes. In ForceVera, officers file reports from the guard app with photos, and clock-ins and patrol scans are added automatically, so the daily report for each site builds itself and is emailed to the client.
