What is a security incident report?

The factual written record of a single event on site.

Incident report: definition

A security incident report is the written, factual record of a single event on a site, such as a theft, injury, trespass, damage or alarm. It records what happened, when and where, who was involved and who saw it, any injuries or damage, whether police attended, and the action the officer took.

Incident report explained

Incident reports are written by the officer who dealt with the incident, as soon as it is safe to, in the first person and in time order. They should stick to facts the officer saw or heard and describe people who cannot be named.

Supervisors review incident reports and decide on follow-up. Clients, insurers and police may ask for copies, and reports can end up as evidence, so photos, CCTV references and the names of attending police officers and their reference numbers matter.

An incident report is separate from the daily activity report, which refers to it by number.

How ForceVera handles it

In ForceVera, officers file incident reports from the guard app with photos. Supervisors and dispatchers see new reports and open incidents straight away, and incidents are included in the client's daily report and, on Pro and Enterprise, in the client portal with PDF downloads.
